WINNIPEG -- The Canadian Diabetes Association (Manitoba & Nunavut) in partnership with presenting sponsor Manitoba Hydro, is calling on all members of the community to support the Best Banting Evening on November 13, 2009, the first-ever diabetes awareness and fundraising event of its kind for the Winnipeg branch of the national association. Monies raised will support the Canadian Diabetes Association’s focus on further education and research in the fight against diabetes.

Named in honour of two of Canada’s most famous scientists - Dr. Charles Best and Sir Frederick Banting, the co-discovers of insulin - the Best Banting Evening will be hosted in the Gallery of the Manitoba Hydro’s new downtown Winnipeg office. Diabetes is one of the charities that Manitoba Hydro generously supports.

Linda Berg, Regional Director of the Canadian Diabetes Association (Manitoba & Nunavut), says that as well as an evening of fun and flair, those attending the Best Banting Evening can look forward to feeling good by supporting an important cause.

“We're fortunate to have the support of some great industry partners to bring this evening together, including sanofi-aventis Canada, AstraZeneca Canada, and Merck Frosst Canada, as well as some excellent entertainment for the occasion: George Andrews, proprietor of G. J. Andrews Food and Wine Shoppe, the premiere gourmet market in town, is set to provide some exquisite food and wine pairings along with his expert commentary; Winnipeg’s Jazzurban will provide the musical ambience for the evening; and renowned Canadian artist, Bruce Head – who has diabetes himself – has generously agreed to donate select pieces of his art for auction at the Best Banting Evening. We’re thrilled to have this kind of involvement!”

Tickets for the Best Banting Evening are $200 (with a partial tax receipt). To reserve yours, please call (204) 925-3800 x222. For an event description, please visit
